Originally built as a rural retreat, the building is laid out as a series of long wings with a central hub and courtyards. Open and glass filled, there are no window treatments to prevent the sun from illuminating the interior spaces. In keeping with the building's principles of contemporary, organic architecture, the new design strips the walls and surfaces of extraneous ornamentation. Simple bold finishes and artwork in saturated ‘autumn” colors offset the exposed chocolate brick structure. Aged woods, hand blown glass light fixtures and patinated copper elements reinforce the natural sense of the handcrafted.
